Djimon Hounsou well recognized for his character Solomon Vandy in 'Blood Diamond' alongside Leonardo DiCaprio is an actor, model, producer, and writer.

Hounsou has a brother named Edmond Hounsou with whom he got emigrated to Lyon in France when he was 12 years old.

The 'Never Back Down' actor dated his "Beauty Shop" co-star Kimora Lee Simmons in 2007, two years after the release of the movie. 

Simmons is an entrepreneur, fashion designer, actress, author, philanthropist, and model. The former pair dated for over five years till 2012, and parted their ways. They have a child together from their relationship.

Blessed With One Son

Hounsou and Simmons are blessed with a son named Kenzo Lee Hounsou from their relationship. Kenzo was born in 2009, and is under the custody of his father. He has three half-sisters Ming Lee Simmons, Aoki Lee Simmons, and Wolfe Lee Leissnernamed from his mother's two marriages.

Started His Career Since 1989

Juba from 'Gladiator' started his acting career in 1989, from a short video 'Tina Turner: I Don't Wanna Lose You'. Then after two years, he got a chance to act in a movie named 'Without You I'm Nothing' as Ex-Boyfriend. 

Since then Hounsou has starred in almost sixty movies, television series, and short videos. 'How to Train Your Dragon' 2 as Drago, 'Fast & Furious 7' as Jakande, 'Shazam!' as Wizard, 'Charlie's Angels' as Edgar Bosley, 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life' as Kosa, and many more.

Not only an actor, but Hounsou is also a producer, director, and writer. He is the producer of 'The Road to Freedom Peak' and an executive producer of 'Elephant White'. Then he produced, directed, and wrote a documentary 'In Search of Voodoo: Roots to Heaven'.

Guardians Of Galaxy

Hounsou first gave the audition in the movie Guardians Of Galaxy for the role Drax, which later was given to Dave Bautista, but was cast the role of Korath the Pursuer. In the movie, Hounsou said his costume and makeup were so uncomfortable and rigid that he had to be channeled into his action sequences. 

While shooting the movie, the costume designer, Alexandra Byrne said he was flustered while taking measurements of Hounsou as he was built so perfectly that even a beanbag would have looked good on him.

Nominated For Oscar

Hounsou is the fourth African actor who got twice nominated for Oscars Awards. In 2004, he was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for 'In America' (2002) as Mateo. Then in 2007, he was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in 'Blood Diamond' (2006).
