In 1978, The 'Clockers' actor created his production company named 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks located in New York whose headquarters is in Brooklyn. They have produced 31 movies and five television series till now.

Kickstarter project Earned $1.25 million

Lee started a Kickstarter project which was about his mysterious movie whose goal was to reach $355,322 but collected a total amount of $1.25 million. Around 1,800 people donated in his project including Steven Soderbergh, who donated $10,000. In 2014, he released his mysterious movie 'Da Sweet Blood of Jesus'.

Lawsuit of $1.2 million

In March 2012, George Zimmerman shot a 17-years old Trayvon Martin during the self-defense. Lee helped the police by tweeting the home address of Zimmerman which turned out to be incorrect and was the residence of a couple named Elaine and David McClain.

After his tweet, the couple started to get hated emails and unwanted visits from reporters and left the home because of the harassment they faced. Then in November 2013, the McClains filed a lawsuit against Lee of $1.2 million for the injuries and damages they faced. Later, the Seminole County Judge dismissed the case by agreeing with Lee that the issue that previously been settled.

Charities

The 'Jungle Fever' actor has supported eight charities and foundations in which he funds and donated for their development. He supports Aid Still Required, American Association of Retired Persons, Champions for Children, Creative Coalition, and others.
